Top 5 tips on what to wear to your senior session (Boy Edition)
This part can be overwhelming - I know! Let's break it down. Typically, for my guys, I recommend 1-3 outfits. To get the MOST variety possible, I recommend doing one casual look and a more formal one. You can also opt to have one of those outfits be a sports uniform or college tee - or throw those on at the end for a few quick shots! Here are some general tips to help guide your choices.
The most important thing to remember when planning your outfits: if it’s not comfortable to wear in real life, it won’t make you feel confident on camera! If you aren't someone who likes to dress up or ever wear a suit jacket...I don't recommend doing it now. To make the pictures look MOST like you...they should be a slightly elevated version of an outfit you would normally wear. Don't try to push yourself too far outside your comfort zone!
On camera, solid black + white can make skin tones look washed out and a little unflattering. When choosing outfits for your senior session, try to choose colors that make a statement and that compliment your hair + skin tones! Primary colors like royal blue and yellow photograph beautifully, as well as jewel tones. But if neutrals are your thing I get it. You don’t need to stray away from what you are used to.
Like I mentioned above, you want to feel and look like yourself...but you don't want all of your photos to look the same. So, even if you don't dress up and don't want pictures in a jacket or suit...try to think of at least two outfit options to bring along with you. Even if it's just a change of your shirt!
Consider bringing along a watch or two, a belt, cufflinks if you are wearing a jacket, a hat if you are wearing your sports gear...think outside the box a bit! Bringing along additional pieces like this allows us to get a lot of variety in your photos in a short time, and make them feel more like YOU!
I will do my best to remind you of this but don’t keep anything in your pockets during your session. Your phone, keys, wallet, etc. will all show up in your pictures as a random square in your pocket.. And we don’t want that.
As we are prepping for your session I will remind you of all of this and I will help you and answer all of your questions along the way.
